Airtel to Hold Amputee Football Tourney
One of Sierra Leone mobile company Airtel would partner with the Sierra Leone amputee association to organise a four days football tournament at the National stadium as a means of fundraising.
Speaking to the press in her keynote address cooperate affairs manager June Rose Johnson said the tournament is not about Airtel but rather to help the Amputee football committee in raising funds for them to participate in the African qualifiers of the 2015 world cup in Kenya which is schedule for 3rd -10th of December 2013. She went further to say that the amputee committee would handle the affairs of the ticket sales as the whole concept is about them.
In giving an over view of the competition, the assistant manager marketing communications of Airtel Martha Johnson, said that the competition would start from the 7th and ends on the 10th of November and would involve eight(8) amputee teams from across the country. For conveniences the matches would be played in the evenings at 5pm to cater for more fans to view the matches and the prices are reasonable as open stands Le 2,000 covered stands Le 5,000 and presidential Le 10,000. With respect to the above it was agreed in collaboration with the amputee committee. Two matches would play per day and the fixtures for the first day would see a Group A encounter as Kenema would play against Flying Stars from Bo and the second match would feature Makeni versus Flying Stars from Freetown. All matches would be played at the National stadium.
President of the Amputee committee Jabati Mambu appreciated the effort of Airtel mobile company for making them realise their dreams and hope that Sierra Leoneans would come in their numbers to compliment the effort of Airtel. According to the PRO of the Sierra Leone amputee sports club Albert Mustapha he said, they would use this tournament to select players for the amputee national team that would participate in Kenya this year.
