CRUELTY… MOTHER SETS SON’S HAND ON FIRE
Fatu Kanu of 4 Watfa Street, Port Loko city should have regretted by now after she cruelly burnt her son’s hands for allegedly eating his father food.
According to our Northern Correspondence, Fatu was charged with the offense of Cruelty to Children contrary to Section 41 of the Cruelty to Children’s Act - Cap 31 of the Laws of Sierra Leone as Amended.
The heartless mother was arraigned before Magistrate Augustine Braima Samura of the Port Loko Magistrate’s Court and was prosecuted by Sergeant 3435 Saidu Kargbo of the Legal and Justice Support Department.
Taking a plea, the accused wasted no time in pleading guilty of all the charges and asked the Magistrate to temper justice with mercy.
Magistrate Samura in his judgment told the court that the charges levied against the accused were serious and did not deserve pardon. He therefore sentenced the accused to 18months imprisonment.
Meanwhile, the boy is responding to treatment at the Port Loko Government Hospital under the care of his grandmother.
