CSO Boss Commends NERC
The Executive Director of Health Network-Sierra Leone, Robert K. Kargbo, on Monday 26th January commended President Ernest Bai Koroma and the leadership of the National Ebola Response Centre (NERC) for adopting the right strategies to eradicate the Ebola Virus Disease from the country.
The Executive Director made the commendation in an exclusive interview with this medium on the drastic drop in the number of confirmed new infections across the country, noting that he had recommended the adoption of drastic approach and radical strategies to eliminate the deadly virus from the country.
Robert Kargbo asserted that the performance of NERC was satisfactory especially when it undertook the two weeks ‘Operation Western Area Surge’ with house-to-house search for the sick that were taken to hospitals and the robust sensitization drive to conquer the fight against Ebola. He puts the success of NERC at 75% with regards the gradual subsiding of the chain of transmission, and called for continued engagement of communities to avoid touching the sick and washing dead bodies.
The Executive Director also commended President Ernest Bai Koroma for his leadership role in the fight against the EVD in Sierra Leone, adding that the transformation of Ebola Operations Center (EOC) to NERC was a laudable venture, noting that the President had demonstrated patriotism and compassion for the citizenry during his most difficult time since he acceded to power.
Robert Kargbo also described President Koroma’s social mobilization drive to urge community leaders to take ownership of the fight as remarkable. He said the recent approach by the President to regularly assess the performance of local authorities has maximized commitment and also built the confidence of Paramount Chiefs and other stakeholders in the fight against the deadly EVD.
Health Network-Sierra Leone is civil society organization advocating for a healthy Sierra Leone to ensure the human rights of its citizens. It is amongst the renowned CSOs that started the campaign against the virus during its outbreak in May 2014. Health Network collaborated with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and other partners to undertake a sensitization drive in five districts including Bombali, Kambia, Pujehun, Western Area Urban and Western Area Rural to raise awareness about the virus.
The organization, among other things, provides support to Government by suggesting mechanisms to win the fight against Ebola.
