Distraction!

Since the erstwhile ruling All People’s Congress (APC) lost the 31st March, 2018 presidential runoff election to the former main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) presidential candidate, Brig. (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio, desperate and vicious stalwarts of the losing party have taken to disseminating negative propaganda messages against the Bio administration and using a spineless British Member of Parliament, Hon. Neil Coyle, to disseminate in the social media whatever information the APC fugitives hiding in the United Kingdom would submit to him.

These frustrated and desperate APC fugitives in the UK continue to feed the irresponsible British Member of Parliament with baseless information about the Bio administration which he disseminates in the social media without hesitation to justify their pathological lies. They are doing all of this in their determination to not only sully the image of the SLPP Government but to also distract the President from his avowed determination to fight corruption by investigating most of the former Government officials now in hiding abroad.

As an MP of a developed country that is historically tied to Sierra Leone, it is quite embarrassing that Hon. Neil Coyle is supporting those who brought this country down for ten years without reasoning or doing research to get firsthand information on the ground. How would he assert that Sierra Leone democracy is under attack without any critical thinking or analyzing the current political atmosphere in the country? This British Member of Parliament is very unfair to the Government and people for taking hook, line and sinker whatever information those APC fugitives hiding in the UK submit to him.

While the British MP of a zombie is being used by dejected APC fugitives to tarnish the image of the Bio administration without making any effort to get firsthand information on current happenings in the country, a delegation of very responsible British Members of Parliament on Tuesday 18th September, 2018 visited President Maada Bio at State House and commended him on his initial steps since being elected as President.

Addressing the President, the head of delegation, Hon. John Mann said as lawmakers, they were impressed with the astute leadership qualities already shown by President Bio. He noted that the new Government was on the right path especially in the area of education and expressed optimism for improvement in other sectors. The MP furthered that the British Parliament was delighted with the strengthening of cooperation between the British Parliament and its Sierra Leone counterparts and assured that not all British MPs take information from social media. Hon. Mann, who has been an MP for Bassetlaw since the 2001 General Elections, was commenting on his colleague, Hon. Neil Coyle, who is making irresponsible and inflammatory statements in video being propagated on social media about the Government of Sierra Leone. He therefore distanced himself and the British Parliament from that recent action of his colleague. The MP told President Bio: “MPs should rely on accurate information and facts and not on what is being propagated on social media. As responsible MPs, we wanted to get the facts straight and get a true picture of what was happening, which is why we decided to visit the country and speak to many people to get firsthand accounts. From what we have seen on the ground, the people we have spoken to and we have listened to your vision, I must say we are very impressed Mr. President with what you have done within this short time and we are hopeful for the future of your country.”

The statement by the British MP contravenes the egregious lies which the APC fugitives in the UK and their so-called Hon. Neil Coyle are peddling internationally and nationally to give the wrong picture of what is happening in Sierra Leone. But whether they take it or leave it, they should face the fact that the electorate rejected them at the poll and chose Brig. (Rtd.) Julius Maada Bio as their President. Instead of going back to the drawing board to make way for a transformation that would suit a democratic setting, they continue to distract the Government from its development programmes which Sierra Leoneans have already started benefiting from, such as the introduction of the free quality education scheme, the flagship project of the President.

Besides, no amount of detraction would stop the Bio administration from going ahead with proposed Commission of Inquiry to investigate former Government officials and their cronies for alleged grand corruption and racketeering with apparent impunity. Many of them have ran away from justice but with the help of Interpol and the cooperation of countries where they are hiding, these fugitives would be forcefully brought home to stand trial for wreaking the economy of this country. So no amount of negative propaganda against the current Government would discourage President Bio’s from his crusade against corruption in governance.
