The National Publicity Secretary of the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Hon. Musa Tamba Sam, died yesterday morning at 34 Military Hospital at Wilberforce, Freetown. The cause of his death is not yet established.

Hon. Musa Tamba Sam, 57, entered the mainstream of active partisan politics in 2007 and represented Constituency 003 in Kissi Teng Chiefdom, Kailahun District, before he was worsted in the November 2012 parliamentary election. The late man was serving his third term of office as National Publicity Secretary when he passed away.

Before he became a politician, Hon. Musa Tamba Sam taught at Islamic Secondary School and Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School in Kenema. He also taught at St. Joseph’s Secondary School in Blama, Small Bo Chiefdom, Kenema District.

Hon. Musa Tamba Sam also worked for the Catholic Mission Relief in Guinea, GTZ in Sierra Leone and later formed his own Non-Governmental Organization PACE.

According to the Administrative Secretary of the SLPP Secretariat in Freetown, Alhaji Koroma, no date has been slated for burial until officials of the party meet and take a decision on when Hon. Tamba Sam would be buried.

Some party supporters in their tributes said Hon. Tamba Sam was a true party loyalist and that he was very compassionate as he spent most of his time and energy on party affairs.

“Hon. Tamba Sam initiated the A-Z on the Ebola fight and I had special love for him because he was fearless in attacking the APC by leading the famous campaign against ‘After U Na U’ by the ruling APC but, notably, by Hon. Robin Faley,” says one of the supporters in his tribute.

According to the SLPP Administrative Secretary, they knew that Hon. Tamba Sam was sick for sometime but not that serious after he returned from a tour of seven districts in the country.

“His death is a big loss to the nation as he was loved by people,” Alhaji Koroma said, adding, “Even the APC loved him because he put them on their toes.”

Prior to his death, Hon. Tamba Sam fought doggedly for the postponement of the Population and Housing Census and also urged the APC Government to concentrate on the fight against Ebola.

The late man is survived by a child and wife.
