KUSS-KASS AT GBANGBATOKE

Reports reaching The Spectator suggest portions of Lower Banta Chiefdom were engulfed in flames over the weekend. The reports alleged that youths from Gbangbatoke fuelled violence in the village of Lagor targeting the Paramount Chief who narrowly escaped for his life.
According to reports, the irate youths set ablaze quarters in the chief’s compound including the court ‘barray’ and also torched the house of the chief’s brother located a few kilometers from the chief’s compound.
The violence could not be unconnected to the reinstatement of the suspended Junior Pessima as town chief of Gbangbatoke. Unconfirmed reports say the youth went on the rampage after Paramount Chief John Jibao Russell Nyama of Lower Banta Chiefdom subverted the process of reinstating Junior Pessima following an official command by the Provincial Secretary to the District Officer to reinstate Junior Pessima.
It is however unclear how the police is responding to the situation with regards investigating the issue and bring perpetrators to book for crimes allegedly committed.
