Parliament to Challenge Canada, Austria

Sulaiman Bah

The Member of Parliament for Constituency 059 in the Tonkolili District, Hon. Hassan Abdul Sesay, has expressed disappointment with Canada and Austria for closing their borders on Sierra Leone at a time they needed them most.

The MP said the two countries are members of the Commonwealth and that Sierra Leone has honoured all its obligation, duties and responsibilities, adding that the two countries are supposed to be with Sierra Leone at a time like this, when it is fighting against a deadly epidemic.

He therefore suggested to the Sierra Leone Parliament to make strong application to the Commonwealth and condemn the act of the two Western countries.

The MP also frowns on certain airlines that have temporarily suspended their operations to Freetown as a result of the outbreak of the Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) in the country, saying that Government has to look into some of these airlines.

According to him, the activities of some of them make it difficult for the country’s Ebola brawl to reach out to other nations that could help.

Hon. Hassan Sesay encourages Government to sustain the structures and experience gained during the outbreak so that at any time the virus recurs, it would not be more difficult to fight like this one.
