Parliament Commends Fimet Construction Company

Sulaiman Bah

The Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Works and Infrastructure chaired by Hon. Kombor Kamara on Wednesday last week commended the good work of Fimet Roads Construction Company (SL) Limited at Hill Station Road and other project sites in the country.

The Committee made the commendation when it summoned all road construction companies in the country to brief and update Parliament on the road construction projects in the country.

Briefing officials of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) and contractors, Chairman Kombor Kamara noted that Fimet Roads Construction Company has demonstrated strong leadership roles in road development in country despite the heavy rains and the Ebola challenges.

Hon. Kombor Kamara appreciated the company for liaising with Parliament and working in line with President Ernest Bai Koroma’s ‘Agenda for Prosperity’ in developing the country’s road infrastructure.

Briefing the Committee on Works and Infrastructure on its operations at the Hill Cut Road/Special Cut axis, Hill Station and other surrounding streets, the General Manager, Mohamed Gento noted that utility materials like cables and pipes owned by National Power Authority (NPA), Sierratel and Guma Valley Water Company (GVWC) are hindering their smooth operation.

“We are finding it very difficult to operate with our heavy caterpillar machines doing the work,” Gento informed the Committee.

He further informed the Committee that the company has the capacity building to challenge any road projects in the country and promised to do more if given other contract.

In his statement, the Acting SLRA Director General, Mr. Abdul Aziz Koroma, explained the role of SLRA towards contractors’ operations in the country, noting that their work is more of supervisory role.

He also commended Fimet on their work particularly in dealing with NPA and SIERRATEL’s cables in their operations.
