Political Affairs Minister Bags Humanitarian Award

Public and Political Affairs Minister, Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Kemoh Sesay on Monday 9th February 2015 at his Youyi Building office in Freetown received a Humanitarian Award from Diaspora Focus for his tireless efforts in the fight against Ebola in the country.

Director of Diaspora Focus, Emmanuel J. M. Stafford, stated that Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Kemoh Sesay was the first politician and Minister to take the lead to bring politicians and political parties together to fight Ebola, a move that created impact in containing the outbreak.

Emmanuel J. M. Stafford further intimated that Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Kemoh Sesay was the first Minister to rally round his colleagues and other political parties to come together in the Ebola fight which has hindered the development and socio-economic activities of the country.

He said that Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Kemoh Sesay is among the 100 Sierra Leoneans including health workers, burial teams, District Medical Officers, who have selflessly contributed to the Ebola fight and commended all for uniting and contributing to defeat the dreadful Ebola virus disease adding that the Diaspora Focus Humanitarian Award 2014 is for meritorious work.

The Director of Diaspora Focus gave a brief background of the organization formed in the United Kingdom to advance the cause and welfare of Africans living abroad and returning home to better integrate and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Responding, Public and Political Affairs Minister, Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Kemoh Sesay disclosed that Diaspora Focus is an embodiment of the Public Affairs Ministry and lauded the organization for recognizing the grassroots.

He continued that the award is not for him alone but the entire Ministry and President Ernest Bai Koroma whose efforts in the Ebola fight has disrupted Government plans in its ‘Agenda for Prosperity’ but registered satisfaction that the disease has drastically reduced.

He recalled, “it is very scary visiting Ebola infected areas and quarantined houses but as a responsible Government, that is what we have to do for the benefit of our people", showered praises on Diaspora Focus and dedicated the award to the President and all Ebola heroes.

Presentation of the award to the Minister climaxed the ceremony.
