SOCIAL WELFARE MINISTRY FEEDS THE NEEDY

The Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs recently donated food items to disable people and children at Kpandebu Dama, Dama Chiefdom, through the support of Kenema District Council.

Presenting the food Items to the vulnerable people, the Assistant Director East, Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children Affairs, Madam Jeneba Alice Koroma, thanked the Kenema District Council for supporting them to fulfil their mandate in giving help to the needy. She also thanked the Resident Minister East, Mr. Maya Moiwo Kaikai, for his tireless effort in making sure that what is due the people reach them in time.

“We are here today to offer you this donation which we received from the Kenema District Council and the Ministry as a joint effort in making sure that we support you in this Ebola time,” Madam Jeneba Alice Koroma said.

“We know that Ebola has derailed all our normal efforts. Please my people take this gift as a gesture and make good use of it for your children and those needy ones.”

According to Madam Koroma, the Ebola outbreak has affected everybody but the disable and children were hardest hit, noting that they are the people who should be supported in this national crisis.

She stressed that they decided to reach out to the disable and children of Kpandebu Dama since the settlement has a very formidable learning institution - the Industrial Growth Centre Kpandebu – where disable people acquire knowledge to share it with other people in the community.

Madam Koroma reiterated that since the outbreak of the EVD disable people and their children have suffered greatly.

The donated food items included bags of rice, bags of onions, bags of salt and other cooking condiments worth millions of Leones. The food items were shared among one hundred beneficiaries.

She admonished the disable parents to take good care of their children who she described as the treasure of the Ministry in particular and the nation in general.

Madam Koroma promised to reach out to other Chiefdoms in the Eastern Region based on the funding they will get from Government and donor partners.
