I wish with pleasure to welcome you all to the Embassy and also to express my appreciation for honoring my invitation to this press conference.

I do not wish to make any statement in respect of the Islamic Revolution which today 11th February marks 36th Anniversary of its victory and the formation of Iranian National day. I would like to only invite questions from you relating to this revolution which you are quite aware of and familiar with.

No one has worked this hard, tried this hard and hoped so much to fail by scoring zero. This new truism only too well befits the people of Sierra Leone as they work assiduously to reach zero for 42 days to mark or otherwise signal the international declaration that Sierra Leone is free from Ebola.

The Parliament of Sierra Leone last Thursday vetted and approved nine presidential nominees after the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments and Public Service had presented its fifth report to the august body for a debate on their approval. Prominent among the nine approved presidential nominees is the Chief Electoral Commission (NEC) and Chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Mr. Mohamed N’fa Alie Conteh, who has spent long years working in the electoral office.

Amnesty International has stated that the Sierra Leone Government must immediately release or facilitate a review by a judicial authority eight people detained for over three months without charge following a riot related to the Ebola outbreak. The eight people - two women and six men - are at present detained in Freetown and were among the thirty-four people detained after an Executive Order was issued by President Ernest Bai Koroma using his power under the State of Public Health Emergency.

The ravaging scourge of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) decimated Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia at such an unprecedented rate, lives lost to an unknown , unseen enemy in battles poor communities and even literate enclaves could not fathom.  This was a slaughter of horrendous proportions yet the World stood still, perplexed in the veracity of the virus. Mankind was overwhelmed  and not even a distraction of its own protuberance could will this danger to be assessed. Moved by its ferociousness, the World community closed ranks against some of the poorest communities in West Africa.

The pump price of fuel in Sierra Leone was slashed yesterday by Le750 from Le4, 500 to Le3, 750 over three months after the world market price for fuel dropped by about 50% according to report.

The Minister of Youth Affairs, Hon. Alimamy Kamara has expressed his disappointment over the conduct of certain senior officials in his Ministry whom he accused of being engaged in diabolic practices in connivance with some unscrupulous officials in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED). Amongst other corrupt practices, the Youth Affairs Minister alleged that since he acceded to office over two years ago, he had never signed the Public Expenditure Tracking (PET) form meant for his Ministry. Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma, who is the Head of Department of Histopathology and Morbid Anatomy at the Connaught Teaching Hospital in Freetown, recently received a professional service fee of US$10, 000.00 from the Redeemed Christian Church of God - Sierra Leone that mysteriously lost their Nigerian Pastor-in-charge, the Pastor’s wife and three of their children on the night of Thursday 4th December, 2014, after they had returned home from a church service.
