The All Political Parties Association (APPA) has called on the Government to speedily investigate the UN agency World Food Programme (WFP) allegedly distributing expired rice to quarantine home across the country through local contractors.

The distribution of the said rotten rice to Sierra Leoneans, according to the APPA Ag. Chairman, Mohamed Bangura, has the propensity to kill more Sierra Leoneans after the country would have been freed from the deadly scourge.

The World Food Programme (WFP) must be highly commended for helping Sierra Leone with the problem of food supply to Ebola survivals, quarantined homes and isolated communities that are desperately in need of food after the outbreak of the Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) in the country.

One of the challenges the Government is facing in the fight against the outbreak of the Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) is the provision of food for Ebola victims, people in quarantined homes and other suffering masses across the country. While the outbreak of the epidemic has prevented millions of able-bodied men and women in the agriculturally viable areas in the country from farming, their earnings have dropped drastically. Economic activities are slowing down and the socio-economic impact of the outbreak of the epidemic on the people and the country’s economy is devastating.
